I'm not a doctor however, I've read so many articles on HSV1 and 2. One thing is consistent with all the articles: anytime there is skin to skin contact with mucous membranes, there is a chance of spreading it. The HSV1 hangs around at the base the neck. That's why you have it as a cold sore on the lips, maybe eyes etc. The HSV2 hangs out at the base of the spine so it manifests in our nether regions. If you are not having protected sex, most likely you will eventually get it. Women get it faster than men because there is more mucous membranes and are totally exposed unlike men, who in essence have more protection, since they have a small opening through the urethra. unless they have a tear in the skin of the head of the penis or shaft, its harder for them to get it but eventually it does happen since this is the gift that keeps on giving. hope that was helpful
